"...and then came the moment-this thrilling, euphoric moment. We knew that this concert was going to be, in a sense, forever, and that every single note would stay with us- forever. And so we went on stage.."

Etta Scollo

With her current live album, In Concerto, the Italian signer Etta Scollo presents her fans with a view of where she is at her most captivating and her most fascinating- on the stage. Recorded on April 9th at the Schmidts Tivoli Theatre, Hamburg In Concerto offers a comprehensive overview of the works to date of this versatile and prolific talent. The album features titles from her previous studio albums blu: and Il bianco del tempo combined with new, unreleased material such as Angelo Mio, the rhythmical Curuna or the ballad Amuri ca di notti.

Her creations find themselves at home somewhere between Italian tradition and pop's avant-garde. Contained in her voice are elements of the melancholy and the sensual, an admixture well seasoned with the earthiness and the vibrancy of her homeland of Scilly. With her strong and passionate vocal style she relates in her songs stories of happenings that often come across as surreal; stories of people she's encountered in the course of her life and stories of people she's loved. Redolent of desire and reminiscence and all the more mesmerising through the sounds of the Italian language, her poetry is at once to be understood and then never to be forgotten.

After completing her studies in Art and Architecture in Turin, Etta Scollo pursued her love of music and trained as a vocalist at the Vienna Conservatory. Up to this day she still travels regularly to engagements between Austria, Italy and her adopted home city of Hamburg.

The release of her debut album entitled blu:, an album produced by C.M. Kaiser and featuring the accompaniment of The London Session Orchestra, took place in 1999 and the critics were quick to shower praise on the impassioned live performances of this deceptively delicate woman from Scilly with a voice like a hurricane.

Her most recent studio offering Il Bianco del tempo was recorded in Venice under the aegis of producer BlackPete (aka. Peter Schmidt). The album has seen her music evolve into something more personal and more cultic and has succeeded in widening her appeal, winning her new fans and admiration.

However, it is on stage singing live where the heart of her music beats the loudest and the bravest for everyone to see. This concert, recorded at Schmidts Tivoli Theatre last spring, is a showcase not just for the singer herself but also for her tight, expert band and features for good measure the exquisite playing of the female string orchestra Musica Nostra. The rapturous evening was one of the most acclaimed events of the 2001 concert season. In Concerto appears in the spring of this year.
